"Let's start by going from left to right in the program and we'll just talk about the windows for now. We'll do that by using illustrations. I'm going to illustrate things as we go along. So, here we are in the Project window, which is where you start and the Project window allows you to bring items into your program. So, we right click and go Import File. And we're going to bring in several items. This has an Alpha Channel, it asks you to identify or ignore the Alpha Channel, of course we'll take it because we're going to be layering. If you've ever worked with Photoshop, you'll have an idea of how After Effects works and the, of course because it's an Adobe program, the two programs talk very nicely to each other, but the functionality is the same. And that comes down to this, you have a series of layers and first layer that you place in your timeline is the background and any layer above that becomes foreground. So, you just work your way forward from the bottom most layer."
