"Hey everybody! My name is Matt and I'm speaking to you on behalf of Expert Village. The first thing you're going to want to do after you start up Maya is to set your project. We're going to create new one here. If you go up to file and come down to project and select new, it's going to take you to the new project dialogue. You can give your project a name. I'll just leave mine as new project for now. Then you're going to want to select where on your hard drive your project is saved. If you click browse. I'm going to just put mine in my Maya folder on my desktop and choose that. Then you're going to want to come down and click the used defaults button. That's going to fill in all this information here for you. These are just folders that are created by Maya, where different types of data are saved. Usually, the default is acceptable, but once you become more comfortable with Maya, you can change those if you want. Click accept and that's going to create the directory structure for Maya for you. What this does is if you go to file and open, it's going to default to the scenes folder, which I don't have anything in there right now. If I go up to file and back down to project and set, I'm going to set mine into the castle folder and select that. When I come up to file and open scene, you can see over here I've got some Maya files. That's because I set my directory to a different folder. Whenever you're working on multiple projects, you're going to want to make sure that you have the correct project set each time to start up Maya."
