"JOHN CARSTARPHEN: Hi! This is John Carstarphen for Expert Village. Now, the nice thing about this is that we can put hair anywhere there are polygons on the object, so it's not just the head but we can create a moustache, we create a beard, chest hair, and the hair room is also useful for creating fur for animals. But for this exercise, we're going to just create a small hair group at the top of the head and we do that by dragging and selecting the group that we want. You'll notice that it turns red; well, that means that these polygons are now selected. And so, once we have that, all we need to do is just close the editor--group editor, and we now have a hair one group available for us to begin building hair with. So, the next thing we do is go to the growth controls and click on the "grow guide hairs" and we will have some hairs that populate the head. Now, from this point forward, it's just a matter of styling the hair and getting the hair to look the way you want to before you begin calculating the dynamics."
