"JOHN CARSTARPHEN: Hi. This is John Carstarphen for Expert Village. This gives us a little bit more control by allowing us to deselect animation. For instance, we can change the type of light from point, to spot, to infinite, to diffuse image-based lighting, that's what IBL stands for. We can control the shadows by adding them. We can control the shadow bias. We have retrace shadow selected now or we can select ambient occlusion, which is a type of shadow that gives--it gives a very realistic shadow when used in conjunction with Image-Based Lighting. So on the parameters panel; we can also change where the light is by using the transform dials and by manipulating the dials, we can adjust the lights just as easily with the dials as we can on the interactive panel. We can change everything, except the color, using the dials."
