Setting Up Pins for IDE Hard Drives

" Hey! I’m James Adams and I’m here with expertvillage.com and now we’re going to talk about setting up the master and slave pin for IDE hard drives. So now we took the hard drive the IDE hard drive and we flipped it over, and now we can see a couple things. This long connector this is for the data and you see right there it has like a groove that’s keyed to the cable. If you can see right there there’s that little notch that notch matches with that groove right there. This one right here is for the power cable. You know your generic white connectors from your computer such as this one, this one connects right there and it provides power to the hard drive and then this third this gap in between right there, this is to setup the master and slave. I talked about the cable and like the top connectors go master and the second connector right below is called slave, well if you plug this hard drive let’s say on the second connector, the middle connector, the slave connector you need to take this pin and connect it on the slave spot and when you flip the hard drive over look at the green PVC or Chips and you’ll see that it’s got like letters and white writing and in this case this hard drive has CS which is cable select, the second one is slave and the second one is master. So since we want to setup this hard drive as a slave let’s say to add storage to windows, you take the pin and you put it oriented like this…and then you take it and you put it on the slave spot, if our windows hard drive absolutely crapped out what we have to do is put this hard drive on the top connector on the IDE cable and then put this pin right there on the master spot and then you can put this on your computer and you’re set to go."
