"JIMMY HARTMAN: Hi, this is Jimmy Hartman on behalf of Expert Village. And in this clip, we'll be going over the Color Overlay layer style. Okay. The next style, we're going to go ahead and go over is the Color Overlay style, a pretty simple style in itself. Let's go ahead and click it and activate it here. Now, basically, you have just three options here, your Blend Mode, the Color and your Opacity. Opacity works the same as any other opacity for your styles. The color here, you can click and change, get any color you want, and all it does is just overlay it over that layer. If you are to use, say, a text layer and you didn't like the color of it, instead of having to select the text layer and try to edit the color that way, going into your options, you can just simply make a layer style, select Color Overlay and then just add a new color. You can blend it with your opacity, etcetera. Now, a great thing about this Color Overlay effect is you can still apply any other filter or style to it and it will retain that color. So if we were to add, say, a Bevel and Emboss effect, you can see our new color still takes place when we add the different styles: Inner Glow, Drop Shadow. It works pretty simple like that. It's pretty simple but useful style."
