Exporting & Managing Libraries in Aperture

"BRANDON SARKIS: My name is Brandon Sarkis on behalf of Expert Village. Today I'll be showing you how to use Apple's Aperture program for the Mac. I know earlier I've briefly touched on exporting but now I want to go into a little more detail on how that works. So first thing I'll do is center up my window here then you're going to go under file, under export and you'll see a couple of different options. Export version is going to export a version of the image you're working with. Export master is going to actually export the real master image you're working with. The problem with that is that's actually going to move your master. And then below that is to exporting metadata. So if you want to just export the data to a list, for example the camera data, the exposure and EXIF data from the photos, any color adjustments things like that, that would all be plugged into that. Below that, you'll also see an option to relocate your masters. So let's say you wanted to move your entire library, this is the right way to do it, the wrong way to do is to click and drag them 'cause then you'll have duplicates. And below that, you'll see an option to consolidate your masters. What this will do is if you're like me and you've got four or five different hard drives all the time with different photos on them, you can click this button and it will pull them all to a location that you specify, and from that point forth that will be your master library. Which is really helpful because I had come from several different old hard drives, a couple of different computers, couple of different workflows before I got Aperture and I was a little scattered, I could work with them all the way where they were or I could hit consolidate and bring them all to one point, I chose to do that so. Below that, you'll also see a way to migrate images, this is if you wanted to just move an image without exporting it and of course print and how to order prints and do the slide show and how to send stuff from the email so. That's pretty much how this works. I'll give you a real quick run through on that. Exporting a version, so I'm going to click on this, it's going to give me once again where to export it to. An export preset, so what kind--what file format, what size, what bit depth on it. Sub folder format if you choose to use one. A naming format if you don't want to go with the current version name, if you want to start your own naming format and you can also add a new folder and export from there and there you go. That is all about exports. "
