"Hi! This C.J. South representing expertvillage.com. In this clip, I am going to show you how to utilize the range selection tool. Okay now, let's talk about the other selection tools. You have 3 of them and they are just below the pointer selection tool. If you click hold it, you've got 3. The first one which is the edit selection tool, the second one which is group selection tool and the third one which is the range selection tool. I'm just going to cover the range selection tool for right now. The other two are a little more advanced so go ahead and select this last one here represented by this little box and a couple of other boxes; they are all boxes, whatever, just read it. Now you will notice your cursor now turns into just a cross here. If you notice that you click anywhere that is not on a clip, nothing happens. Okay, but essentially what it is doing is making a selection from wherever you click and hold, to wherever you let go. Okay, this is kind of a weird selection. You know. You are selecting essentially portions of clips and again it will snap if you have snapping turned on but this is great if you have a portion of a single clip that you just want to move somewhere else. Let's say I want to move just the middle of this clip and just move it somewhere else. Instead of taking the blade tool and cutting there and cutting there and using the selection tool and clicking and moving it, instead of doing that I can just use the range selection tool which you can accomplish by hitting ggg on your keyboard so hit g 3 times, I can then go to wherever it was that I had my play head at and I can just click hold and just drag it to where I want it to stop and let go. Now it hasn't cut this clip yet, it is just kind of showing you what is going to move. Notice how my cursor now turns into those 4 arrows. All I have to do is click and hold it and then drag it and it instantly has cut it away from the rest of the clip and I can just use my pointed tool, delete the space or whatever you want to do. You can do the exact same thing more than one clip as well. Just want this section and you will have a fade in between and you just want to move those over to the side here; no problem. It is just a way to get a little bit more fine tuned with your selection. "
