"Hi! This is CJ South representing expertvillage.com, in this clip I’m going to show you the real time effects pop-up menu. The real time render effects pop-up window is in the upper left corner of the timeline and it has it says RT on it with a little arrow next to it, go ahead and click that and you see a set of options that come up, these options effect playback of your rendering. Now if you look at my timeline I have again some unrendered clips that have effects applied to them and you see the orange and the green bars representing green being playback okay and yellow being a little iffy and it’s going to be choppy or I guess it’s more of an orange sorry, so now you can change these options the default is on unlimited RT. Now you have a choose between safe RT and unlimited RT and unlimited RT means it will playback an effect even though it’s not totally able to playback at a full speed in real time rendering but now if I click safe RT all those orange areas just turn red and some of the green areas became a darker green, now what it did is it says if I can’t play this back at full speed real time I’m just going to make it totally unrenderable I’m just going to make it red, that’s all I’m going to do is just make it red. So now you have to now render that out, hold on one sec there we go, so now it has to be rendered because it’s all unrendered it’s not even going to attempt to play it back, the green will still play but when it gets to red it will no longer play so depending on what your systems speed is and how much RAM you have you can use safe or unlimited, it’s up to you. I’m just going to go to unlimited for right now, now you have below that play bass layer only so let me click back to safe RT here right quick, now when we play on a red it says unrender if you click play bass layer only what that says is that final cut pro is going to ignore the effects and it’s just going to play the layer just the bass layer it’s going to ignore the effects and just play the layer that’s on its bottom track here and it’s going to do it with no effects on it. So if I play over the red now you can see that it shows nothing, there’s no unerendered sign it’s just playing the layer, that’s all it’s doing just playing the layer, the green one will still work though the green effects will still work it’s just the red effects that will not work and that can speed up the process if you don’t want to bother with skipping around them and just play through it"
