How to Use Source & Destination Controls in Final Cut Pro 5

"Hi! This is CJ South representing expertvillage.com, in this clip I’m going to explain to you source and destination controls. Now let’s talk about source and destination controls, okay source and destination it’s over here right around the same area where the audio controls that we’ve just talked about were and it’s these little brackets, you have audio and you have video and these are the source and destination controls. Now the ones on the right are the destination and the ones on the left are the source, let me just show you exactly how this works, okay I have a clip up in the viewer and let’s say I’m going to insert it, alright I click insert, what happens? I get video and audio on the tracks that my source control is on for both audio and video, so now what happens if I move these cause you can move them by just click, dragging or sliding them or clicking on destination, well let me show you let me do an insert again now my video got laid out on track 2 instead of track 1 but audio is still on the same track, so wherever you put these source tabs that’s where when you drop files in that’s where they’ll go and that’s how they’ll be related to each other. So even if I was just to drag this down, the relation would still be that when this is on track 2 my audio is on A1, if I move it up my audio will then move to A2 but if I’m just on track 1 there’s no audio at all because the relation is different, so you can go ahead and you can move your audio down like I can separate those and then bring in my audio, okay it’s not allowing me to do that because I forgot to bring these down, there you go now you’ll see that it got move down the audio and the video and again you know you just move it up, whatever."
