Trimming Audio Files with the Slider in Final Cut Pro 5

"This is C.J. South representing expertvillage.com. In this clip I will start showing you how to fine tune your stereo and mono tracks. So now let's talk about fine tuning your tracks a bit. Well you know we have the normal trimming; trimming with your pointer tool here. Just kind of drag the edge and kind of trim. But what I really want to talk about is the slide tool. Now we covered the slide tool earlier. It's over here in the tool pallet and it is right next to the slide tool right in the middle here so select that. I am going to show you how to make some real precise slide edits with this thing numerically because sliding can be really really handy when you are editing with audio. So you can do a couple of the following here. Once you have a clip selected, just go ahead and hit the plus key and then type in a numerical value, plus 20 sends it 4, 20 frames. Then minus 20, sends it back 20 frames. So you can use numbers to go forward in a time code or backwards. Now you can also use the left and right brackets. When I say left and right brackets, I mean these keys right here. The right bracket and the left bracket. You can also use these little, never mind. The right and the left bracket. So what do those do? Well, they shifted by a single frame. So if you noticed I click and hold this, it starts moving. It starts sliding itself up to the right and then go back, sliding itself back to the left. So I can go frame by frame by frame and just kind of slide everything together. So if you are trying to match up an edge, like I am trying to match up this edge with this edge and I am trying to hit it so that they are both hitting the same beat because I want to just cut a section out of the song. This is great because I can go 1 frame over at a time until I hear, there it is; that's where it connects. It doesn't sound bad. "
