"Hi! This is CJ South representing expertvillage.com, in this clip we’re going to talk about placing your in and out points in a timeline. Welcome to volume four in the series we’re going to talk mainly about the timeline, we’re going to set settings and preferences in the timeline as well I’m going to show you how to navigate through it. So let’s start with in and out points, the end and out points work the same as they did in the view except for they’re positioned differently and instead of selecting inside of a clip you’re now selecting through your entire sequence so you’ll be selecting multiple clips most of the time. So just in the sequence here in the timeline just put your play head anywhere you want to, just hit the I key, make an end point if you notice it came out on top now and then play it somewhere else and now put O for out key now you have an out point. Now you can click and drag the in and outs if you prefer just by clicking on them and then moving them, if you notice your play head follows it that way you can see where it is you’re going to drop it. Now let’s say you want to get rid of them which you will want to do eventually, just go up to mark and then go down to clear in and out or you can just hit option X. So now I want to tell you about a nice little tool, a nice little trick here that’s great for selecting single clips, it’s the X key okay you put your cursor over a clip, you hit the X key and what happens is an end and out point gets set to the beginning and the end of that specific clip, so it’s a really nice tool when you want to get specific on a clip."
