"DIXON GILLETTE: Welcome back to Expert Village, my name is Dixon Gillette and let's continue our tutorial on Microsoft Flight Simulator X. Here in Flight Simulator, you'll be handed off to an approach controller if you're on IFR approach. The center will essentially say, "Contact the approach on this frequency," and you'll essentially contact that approach on that frequency. Now, on the Flight Simulator, you actually push numbers that correspond to your options that you have available. So essentially, by pushing the number one button, we tune our radios automatically, they're auto-tuned for us, and then we push one again to contact. We wait for the contact and then we wait for the controller to come back to us. And they'll typically tell us if they have us on radar and to await further instructions. Now, if we're at approach, approach will typically give us vectors and altitudes to follow that will guide us to a landing on the runway. Once we get close to the destination airport, approach control will hand you back over to tower control. And tower control will essentially give you clearance to enter the traffic pattern and, eventually, land your aircraft. And the same procedures apply, you simply auto-tune your radio to the tower frequency and the tower controller will give you clearance or give you pattern instructions. Now, once your aircraft is on the ground, the tower will again turn you over to ground control. And then you will talk to ground control and tell them what your intentions are, either taxing to parking, taxing to get fuel or you're taxing to a terminal gate. And that pretty much completes the cycle of how you're going to use ATC services in Microsoft Flight Simulator in a single player environment."
