"DIXON GILLETTE: Welcome back to Expert Village, my name is Dixon Gillette and let's continue our tutorial on Microsoft Flight Simulator X. Now, in the aircraft in Flight Simulator X, you're going to run into a few different types of flaps, and the first type is plain flaps or simple flaps and they are essentially a back panel that drops down on a hinge. The next type of flaps that you're going to encounter are split flaps. Split flap, essentially again, come down from your edge, but the top surface of that wing does not move. And then finally, there's Fowler flaps. Fowler flaps are pretty much the most complicated type of flaps there are, which they essentially, not only move downwards, but they also move backwards in greatly increasing the area of the that wing."
