"Hi, this is Douglas Willot on behalf of Expert Village and today we're going to talk about how to decide between purchasing a PC or a Mac. Another good way to help your decision is setting your budget. Make sure you're going to buy something within your price range. Macs are generally more expensive than PCs and they rarely go on sale. PCs often go on sale because there's multiple manufacturers of a PC desktop, so it's a more competitive market. Whereas Mac is the only company that makes Macintosh computers. What you want to do is go online and see what you can find within in the price range that's going to get the job done that you need done. Earlier we talked about asking yourself what you need from a computer. Well, if you just need to search the internet, you could probably find the cheapest thing out there thats going to both have internet access and handle software that's going to protect your computer from viruses. However, a Mac, which is more expensive, might run a little bit faster because it has alot of internal software and internal firewall that's going to protect you from your viruses. You can go to sites like Dell and take a look at their laptops or their desktops to see what the cheaper end is. You can find a notebook, or a laptop, on Dell for about $500. Whereas Macs start around $1000. It's about $1200 for a desktop Mac, as opposed to on here where you can find a desktop for much cheaper. And then you start getting to the higher end computers. That's where alot of the prices start being about the same on both the Macs and PCs for roughly the same technology. Additionally, besides looking at Dell, you should be looking at HP or Hewlett-Packard and various other PC manufacturers to see what they're charging for their laptops and desktops. You can always find it cheaper than you can find a brand new Mac. If you're looking for the cheapest, most basic product, in that department that's where PC has it over Mac. Your basic cheap machines are going to be PCs not Macintoshes."
