Series Summary

Self-defense is a system of combat techniques used to prevent another person causing harm to your person or property. There are many forms of self defense including women's self defense, karate, judo, jujutsu, tae kwon do, and other forms of martial arts. Some forms of self defense teach non-violent techniques like verbally de-escalating confrontations in order to avoid the use of force, but most utilize strikes, throws, locks, punches, kicks, elbows, and other close combat attacks.

When it comes to a child's self-defense, every parent wants to make sure that their kids are well-equipped to avoid dangerous confrontations and defuse any invasion of their personal space. In this free video series, a 4th degree black belt will illustrate how parents can teach their children to defend themselves with a number of strikes and attacks. A child will learn how to strike against grabs, punches, and choking attempts, as well as a number of other threats. With these tips and defense techniques, every parent will be able to convey to their children ways that they can prevent and avoid danger with their own attacks and strikes.

Video Transcript

"In kid's safety, you might get grabbed from behind. And something that you can use to defend yourself would be your feet. Your feet are an extremely useful kicking tool, striking implement, that can help you escape. If you have somebody grabbing you from behind. One thing you can do is you're going to turn towards them, you're going to use the side of your foot, and you're going to go right above the ankle bone, giving a good kick. You'll bend it slightly, and then you step in this place. And that's going to bend the ankle back, at an unnatural position. The initial blow is going to break their leg, or, not break it, but it will offset them to a sense, to a sense where it's going to take them off balance, giving you enough time to escape. Again, you're going to turn, you're going to put the foot towards the ankle; you're going to scrape it down. And then you're going to step right in its place. This is going to help you, to break their balance, and give you time to escape, so that if you're grabbed from behind, you'll have some tools, where you can escape. And that's how you can escape, from a grab from behind."
