" I’m Vanessa on behalf of Expert Village.com. Today we are going to talk about how to make your baby stop crying if possible. First we are going to try a pacifier. That seemed to work pretty well but he is still not very happy. So the best thing is to know your baby and find out why they are crying. Notice that I am bouncing him slightly on my knee. They usually like that motion but that’s not doing it. So I am going to stand up. Sometimes just bouncing and rocking with your baby will soothe them. If a baby has a little ball of gas in their tummy even the size of a pinhead, it can cause excruciating pain so some times just bouncing and rocking will help to soothe your baby. If this position is not working, try a different position. Try him up on your shoulder, maybe. Maybe they just want to be held close. Maybe they don’t like to be held close. Maybe they like to be held facing outward. Some times babies like that more than others. Maybe they like to be held facing downward and pat their back and that will help to get that gas. This baby is just not happy with any of these things. Maybe walking around, making singing a lullaby will help to soothe your baby but what’s wrong with this baby is that he is hungry. So what I am going to do to soothe my baby is to feed him and that will get him to stop crying. But the thing you have to remember if for some reason nothing is working and your baby is not going to stop crying, you need to leave your baby in a very secure area and go as far away from your baby as safely possible. Give yourself a good 20 minutes to breathe and calm down where you can’t hear your baby and then you will be able to be calm and cool and come back and attend to your child. They will be safe the whole time and you will be able to breathe, relax and get to know your baby and that is the most important thing. Just remember it doesn’t last forever. You will get through it. I promise. "

on 4/16/2009 20 minutes is way too long to leave a baby crying in my opinion. If they are crying for that long they probably need something.

on 8/2/2008 try shooshing, swaddling before you walk off for 20 minutes...that's seems like a long time.
