" This is Vanessa and Andrew on behalf of Expert Village.com and this is bathing your baby. What you are going to want to do is get your baby wet without getting his or her belly button wet if it is a newborn and it has not fallen off yet. So what I am doing is just getting him wet without scrubbing him. It seems to calm him this way. You are going to get your bathing lotion otherwise known as soap. Get your baby nice and soapy and then you are going to rinse that soap off with the water making sure not to get that belly button wet. I can go ahead and do his head. Make sure not to get water also in their ears. As soon as you are done lathering him up just go ahead and use that rinse water that you already had prepared and gently and carefully rinse him off; simple as that. That is how you bathe your baby."

on 1/27/2009 Vanessa has missed a number of crucial steps and isn't up on the latest information related to umbilical cords. You ARE able to fully bathe a newborn and get their cord wet when bathing them provided that you dry the cord afterward. There are new studies showing that the cord will fall off regardless.
