Breast Feeding Supplies for Newborns: Part 1

"Hi, I'm Liz Hood on behalf of Expert Village and right now I am going to talk about different supplies that you need to have on hand, at your house, if you plan on breastfeeding. Now, this here is an electric breast pump produced by Evenflo. You just put this up against your breast and it draws out the milk and deposits it directly into a little bottle. Now, you do need to have a breast pump even if you plan on just being a stay at home Mom, there will be instances where you can just have your husband bottle feed your baby or if you after a couple of weeks want to go out on the town with your husband or a friend you can have your baby sitter go ahead and bottle feed your baby some of your breast milk. So, also at first when your milk comes in and your breast are very hard and it's hard for the milk to come out for the baby, sometimes it's good to just go ahead and pump out just a little bit, it kind of loosens it up and makes it easier for the baby to latch on. Now, another thing you might want to think about getting is some easy pour milk storage bags. These are good for actually storing your breast milk. You can store breast milk in the freezer for a lot longer than you can store it in the fridge and these actually have a part where you can put in the date so you can make sure you know exactly how old it is. These are easy to pour right into the bottle before you warm it up and there are bottles like this that you can drop in bags like that, so that is just something that you can think about. Another thing that you definitely need to have if your planning on breast feeding is a nursing bra. They are all made in different ways but this particular one just has a little latch at the top and you can open it up and then you are accessible. There are also lots of different kinds of night gowns that you can get that have very stretchy tops that you can just pull down and breastfeed. Those are very, very very handy and these are very very handy because you don't want to have to take off the whole thing and your shirt everytime you have to feed which at first is about every two hours or so or less actually so that is very, very helpful."
