"This is language at Northstar Montessori Preschool. Language is one of our strongest subjects here. We do a lot of with the very early reading books. The "Matt's the Cat" series, we do the Sam book, or excuse me, they actually, these are called Bob books. We do all the very early books. We also create some of our own. We do, we still at this age level, we still will work with the sandpaper letters. One of the things that we do a lot of with the letter jars, we create these letter jars, this is the Z. Has a zipper and a zebra in there. We change out these objects constantly. This is something you can do at home, the children really learn how to put the correlation between a sound and an object that way. They know ba, ba, butterfly. Ba, ba, bea, etcetera. It also helps to register with the children a little bit more rapidly than it would if it's just a picture. Pictures work as well, but if they can hold it and touch it, it's much more obvious to them. We do a lot with early writing preparation as well. We do push pinning, we do a lot with coloring within lines so that they get that they can hold the pencil straight. So that is language at Northstar Montessori Preschool."
