"This is the science area of Northstar Montessori Preschool. The children put the dirt in the terrarium as well as planted as the plants, and as you can see, now after a few years, they have gone crazy. But the children do care for the plants, they make sure that they get water. Another thing that we do, these are more by themes according to the season, but right now we're studying birds. And this particular activity has the different kinds of birds that, and the children match the different types of birds with the names of them. We just made up this activity with little cards and stuffed animals. This particular activity is essentially the same as that, but these are more lifelike, they have the, so the children - I don't know if you can hear the sound, but these make sound so the children can learn the sounds. One of the things that we do with science as well is we may have a coloring page that has a picture of a bird on it, and will color an example so they know exactly how to color that bird. We do a lot with real photos of things so that children can recognize them later in nature. So, in the spring we also hatch eggs with an incubator and then we take them to the farm, so the children can see the natural progression of hatching eggs and many other activities, so that is science at Northstar Montessori Preschool."
