"This is our geography and culture area of Northstar Montessori preschool. We do everything by continents first, everything is in very large scale. So we teach the children just the names of the continents first, and then we'll show them where they are on the map. We have our map puzzles here, land and water globe here. This has a texture so the children can see where the land and water are. And then our globe. The things that we have over in our culture area are things that have to do with any other culture or language in any way. So the items that you see in the basket, we just, we tell them the names of these in the language that we're studying. We teach Spanish as well as a little French, but Spanish is our predominant second language that we teach, at Northstar. So a lot of what we do, these are the traditional dress costumes from different cultures. These are different activities to match. So we round all the different avenues of Montessori into culture by just using things that have different, different costumes and languages."
