Breastfeeding is the feeding of an infant or baby with milk from a woman's breasts. Babies have a sucking reflex that enables them to suck and swallow milk. With few exceptions, human breast milk is the best source of nourishment for babies. National governments and international organizations promote breastfeeding as the best method of feeding infants in their first two years and beyond. Most U.S. states now have breastfeeding laws, which allow a mother to breastfeed her baby anywhere she is allowed to be.
Breastfeeding etiquette is a concern for new mothers, despite laws that may allow for them to breastfeed anywhere. So, how does a mother nurse her baby in public without worrying about being embarrassed, or embarrassing others? In this free video series, our expert will show new mothers several options of what to wear while breastfeeding, and how to adapt to being in different locations, such as the park or in the car. You'll also get some advice on where to breastfeed, and how to alter your clothing to hide your baby.
"Hi, my name is Alicia and this is Expert Village and today I am going to be giving you some great tips on breast feeding etiquette. My first big tip is really important, what to wear. Now one of my all time favorites is the two piece method, where you wear kind of a tight fitting, almost a tank top underneath and then on top you put a loose fitting shirt. Now what this does is two things to cover you. When you put this on over the top and when you go to breast feed you can pull up on the bottom shirt like this, you pull up, exposing the breast and then when you want to breast feed you just put your baby underneath right here and then the top of your breast is covered and also your midrift area is. Now say that you didn't plan on doing the two top method and you ended up going out without that. You can also do the same method with breast feeding and say that your midrift is exposed you can always take an extra shirt that you have and when you pull up your shirt to expose your breast for the baby you can tie this around your waist to tuck in your tummy.
