" Hi! My name is Ann and I am here to talk about homework tips. One of the things that is often overlooked is the use of reference materials when you are doing homework. For example, you could be working with your child doing homework and your son or daughter says to “hey! how do you spell the word encyclopedia.” Well instead of spelling the word out for your child it is more useful and more meaningful activity to have your child take the dictionary and look up the word in the dictionary and see how it is spelled and again what you are doing here is teaching your child how to turn to various resources to find the answer and not to get frustrated and give up. So for example with the dictionary what you are learning is alphabetical order and how to handle and look for an access or information in the book. So again remember now when it is easy to say “hey! that’s how you spell the word,” but really it is more meaningful to sit with your child and to say what resources can we look to help answer that question."
