" Hi! My name is Ann and I am here to talk about homework tips. One of the issues to look at carefully is monitoring and supervising your child while doing homework. You want to make sure to be close and yet not too close. You want to be available to assist and reinforce whatever the work that is being done at homework time. You want to be there to answer any questions, but remember now don’t do the work yourself. The whole point is for your student or child to do it and you are there to assist and support, but really it is the responsibility of the student or the child to go over the skills that are needed and complete the homework assignments. If the instructions are not clear, it is always a good idea to contact the teacher as soon as possible to find out exactly what is the purpose of the homework assignment. Homework is supposed to be a review, it is not an introduction of new concepts or skills. It is something to reinforce and to have an opportunity to practice whatever skills have been learned during the school day. Remember when you are monitoring your child while doing homework, you don’t want to make your child nervous or apprehensive, it is counterproductive. What you want is for your child to feel comfortable and to be able to turn to you for questions or help without feeling intimidated, again support is patience."
