Homework: it's been a four-letter-word to many school children for decades. For the most part, kids and homework have lived on opposite sides of the fence because of the inevitable change in environment that takes place from the classroom to the living room. When a child takes an assignment home, they're moving from a good study environment, conducive to learning, to a place usually devoid of a quiet workspace, full of wonderful electronic distractions, and with no teacher in sight.

It’s no surprise, then, that homework takes a measure of discipline; a change in environment has probably created a change in attitude. Kids need parents' support to help get them on the right track to academic success. Parents have to partner with teachers to continue the educational process from the classroom to the home, helping kids become lifelong learners.

One of the main factors to look at when you are dealing with homework and children school is to find a special spot in your house where you will be able to sit and work with your child and do homework in a quiet tranquil setting, where there is enough lighting, where there is enough space, where you can spread out your book, paper, crayons, markers etc. and that you set aside a specific time of the day to sit and go over all the work that needs to be done with your child and remember always to be patient and be aware that it is very important to look at what your child needs to practice or go over and perhaps repeat it several times in that evening one or two minutes at a shot."
