"My name is Courtney Hester on behalf of Expert Village. In this clip we're going to be talking about internet safety. Kids love to get on the internet and there are many great sites for them out there, but before you let your kids get on the internet, there some safety things to keep in mind. One you always want to monitor your child while they're on a computer. You might want to have their computer setup somewhere where you can actively watch what they're doing while you're doing other things that you need to be. So you don't have to sit right next to them, but you definitely want to keep on eye on what they're doing, what programs they're using, where they're going on the internet. Also you'll want to discuss with your child that it's never okay to give out personal information on the internet. There are so many different sites and ways that make that so easy for kids to give out personal information and they really don't need to do that. Also if you have older children, you will want to discuss with them the dangers of chat rooms and blogging. Those can be great fun ways to meet new friends, but there's also many dangers involved in partcipitating on those types of sites. Also there are many parental controls out there for you to use. There's software that you can buy and download, but also many internet providers now make that free to their customers where you can restrict sites that your child can access. Also you might want to discuss with your child about downloading software, there are many people out there trying to put virus's on computers and you might want to discuss with your child about them downloading and tell them not to download things without your consent. There are a lot of great resources on the internet for parents and teachers and for kids to teach them about internet safety. One internet site that I like in particular is called ikeepsafe.org. It is a site that has many great resources for parents, teachers and kids, there's fun games and videos and lessons for you and your kids. As you can see here we have a couple of different videos and tips for you to show your children and for you to watch as well."
