How to Set Up a Computer Desktop for Kids

"My name is Courtney Hester on behalf of Expert Village. In this clip we're going to be customizing our child's desktop to make it more kid friendly. First thing we're going to do is we're going to delete some of the icons that we don't need or that the child doesn't need to access. First I'm going to delete this google earth, that's not one my child's going to be needing. I am going to leave the internet, I'm going to get rid of this jukebox though. I'm mostly going to get rid of our other software that the child doesn't need to use. But I also want to add an icon to this page for a program that my child will be using and that is paint. So I'm going to go to all programs and up to accessories, I'm going to find this program in the start menu and then all we have to do is drag it over to the desktop and a shortcut will be made. So we'll put this up here this way my child can find it very easily without having to go into the start menu. Also we can go into the control panel and change the background or the wallpaper to something that my child would like. Now that we're in the control panel we'll go to display and we click on desktop and then we can choose a different background and I'm going to choose this one and we hit apply and then okay. Now we have customized our desktop to make it more friendly. As you install software for your children, you can add shortcuts onto your desktop as well and in later clips I'll be showing you how to add website links to your desktop."
