How to Schedule Computer Time for Kids

Children growing up in the Internet age have access to more information than any other generation prior. What took students hours and hours of research through limited numbers of local library reference books can now be accomplished with a few keystrokes on a basic home computer. Information which would never have been available before can now be accessed to help students with their homework. But within this wealth of information one can also find numerous subjects that are, shall we say, inappropriate for children. Every parent wants to keep their child safe, and Internet safety is no exception. But how do you teach children web surfing skills and keep them safe from online predators and inappropriate material?

In this series of free video clips you'll get tips from an expert on not only keeping your kids safe while surfing the Internet, but also how to regulate Internet time and help them get set up to use various online resources. Courtney Hester also shows you how to set up a custom desktop with login and password for your child, how to set restrictions in Internet web browsers and how to bookmark kid-friendly sites for your child. She also demonstrates how to transfer images from a digital camera to a computer and show how to organize and edit the photos to share with friends.

" My name is Courtney Hester on behalf of Expert Village today we are going to be talking about scheduling computer time for your kids. It is important for your kids to have time limits on the computer and of course the amount of time is to the desecration of the parent. Although younger children do not need as much computer time as older children. One way to schedule time for your kids is to have a chart especially if you have more then one and it would cut down on arguments over who's turn it is and if they there computer time for the day. One chart I like to use is like this, this chart is set up for 9 weeks and it is for my two children and Amanda has her computer time in the morning she could chose any time and then Heather could have her time in the afternoon. The reason that I like this chart is because it helps the kids remember when/if they had there computer time for the day and also helps me remember to. Once each child has had it's computer time for the day they put a sticker for that spot and this cuts down on the arguments on whether or not if they got there computer time for that day. Computer time can also be a great incentive for doing chores or being on good behavior at school, you could always give them extra computer time it also could be a good consequence so when there behavior is not what you desire.
