" Hi, I am Debbie with ExpertVillage.com. another great pair of authors is Stan and Jan Bernstein and The Bernstein Bears, this is another great series when your child is experiencing things in their own life like getting ready to go to camp, maybe having some trouble telling the truth, going to the babysitter for the first time, there is every one that you can imagine. Going to the dentist, bringing a new baby home, lots of good things to introduce kids with things that are going to on in their life and to reinforce them and reassure them that everything is going to be okay. Another one of my favorite authors is Jonathan London in his Froggy series; I cannot tell you how much kids love these Froggy books. Froggy Eats out, Froggy Gets Stressed, Froggy Rides a Bike, there is a wide variety, Froggy’s First Kiss, Froggy Plays Soccer and what is great about these books is lots of good reading together and there is lots of good opportunity to use expression in your reading and a lot of good alliteration in the reading. I like the way he uses the big words and that is what the kids see, they see that and they recognize it and they go “Wwweeeeee”. When they see this, they know that their part is “Ffrrroooooggyyy”, they know it automatically and they read it with you. Another great thing that he does is he plays with language a lot “As he flopped back to his bedroom to get dressed – ZIP! ZOOP! ZUP! ZUT, ZUT, ZUT!”. Kids love that and it is playing with the sounds in our language, so the Froggy books are my among my favorite. So getting the whole series is a great idea. Another author that I really, really love and he is fairly new on the scene is David Shannon, he wrote the David books and can I just tell you how much little kids love these book. And we talk about well, the books are called David Gets in Trouble, the author’s name is David and I am wondering if he is writing about himself. Lots of repetition, easy writing, big print and the kids can immediately remember it and read it with you. Here is David and he skateboarding through the living room and he says, “I did not mean to!” You can talk about reading with expression; he uses exclamation points a lot in his writing. “It was an accident!” You can talk with your kids, what happened? what did he do? Do you think that was a good choice? How could he have made a better choice? “Do I have to?” Why do you think David is sad? He does not want to eat his breakfast. Lots of fun things that kids can identify. Here is David Goes to School and gets in trouble in school, here is the original “No David!” which was also a Caldecott Medal winner. And David Shannon also some that were not in the David series that kids loved equally as well, How I became a Pirate, he wrote this along with Melinda Long and Alice the Ferry – this is kind of the girl version of the “No David!” books. Precious books and cute illustrations. "
