"My name is Dr. Randall Hyde. On behalf of Expert Village I want to talk to you about the greatest bang and problems that we have in our society with parents and children. That's indulging and rescuing. What does indulging and rescuing your child produce? Kids who feel entitled and who exhibit that feeling through being spoiled. Not holding your kids accountable or responsible and issuing consequences is a great disservice to your child because then they think they're special. They become narsisstant, they think they're above the law. You are negating the greatest teacher of all; life. The grand law of the universe is that there is always a consequence. What happens if you don't hold your child responsible and accountable? You are telling them you can escape the consequence. What a huge disservice. You are negating that you repute your soul, that they have power for good or bad. You are not the only teacher in your child's life. Life is a great teacher also with consequences. Often I'll have a school call saying that a parent is in there ranning and raving in behalf of their child saying, "What do you mean my child cheated, my child will never do that?" When the child actually cheated. The child will acknowledge, yeah I cheated. But the parent is in there negating the consequence. What are they learning? Oh I'm above the law."
