Video Transcript

"My name is Dr. Randall Hyde. On behalf of Expert Village I want to give your the greatest skill in teaching and communicating with young children. It's funny because of times I'll see parents who are reasoning and discussing with very young children. Let me assure you their brains do not even develop fully until their early 20s, mid 20s. They do not have that reasoning ability. The best way to communicate and teach young children is behaviorally. You teach through praise, rewards, negative consequences. How's the best way to communicate your love? Through affection. Through play. Children respond so well to affection. Something I do with my young daughter is I say, "Synia, I am going to do horrible things to you." And she goes, "Yes daddy do horrible things to me." What that means is I grab her, throw her on the bed, we rough house, I tickle, we have the time of lives. That's good for adults too. Young kids can teach adults how to have fun. If you want to really reach a young child, do it behaviorally."
