"Hi! I'm Karina Fraley for Expert Village and today I'm giving you some tips on baby proofing and child proof your kitchen. Most kitchens actually serve as sort of a through affair out to the yard or to the driveway. If this is a case in your home, you want to be sure that you secure any exterior doors. You don't want your child getting out of the kitchen as you're going through the kitchen and getting out the door. It can happen very quickly before you know and a child can go wandering into both hazards that in the back yard, as well as out on the street. One of the best ways to do this is to initially close off any sort of passageways, like using the baby gate, as we discussed in one of the previous clips. Something like a lock like this that is too high for a child to reach is actually a really good second step in security beyond the baby gate. It's true that a child can pull something up and eventually learn how to climb, but this is going to keep your child safe for quite a while. Go ahead and consider installing a lock that is high up out of a child's reach."
