"Hi! I'm Karina Fraley for Expert Village and today I'm showing you how to baby proof your kitchen. You're going to want to have a way to keep your child either in the kitchen if that's where you want him, or out of the kitchen. With doorways that actually don't have a door, you're going to want to go ahead and use a baby gate. The reasons are obvious why you wouldn't want a child wandering into the kitchen when you're not in there. If you have food in the oven or on the stove, if you haven't had a chance to clear the counters of any potential hazards. You don't want a toddler or even a crawler crawling in and having access to anything that might endanger them. You also don't want a child being able to leave the kitchen or to crawl through the kitchen or walk through the kitchen and out a door or into a laundry area. There are obvious dangers with washing machines and dryers. You don't want a child ever crawling into one of those. Then if there's a back door through the kitchen, you don't even want your child going out the door. There are many different gates out on the market that you can use. I highly recommend that you invest a gate for every doorway. If you have multiple doorways in your kitchen, you really are going to want to be sure that every entrance and exit to the kitchen is protected, that your child is protected from having access to them that you do not want them to have."
