"Okay, the first thing that you want to do with a New Year's Eve toast is keep it short. Now let's talk about short for a minute, because when I say short, my definition of short might be entirely different than your definition of short. I'm not even talking minutes, and minutes, and minutes. I'm talking your New Year's Eve toast should simply be perhaps four sentences, like two minutes or less. The New Year's Eve toast is not, which many people don't realize and they make this mistake, is not an opportunity to go on, and on, and on for minutes, and minutes into hours, and hours into days. It is not an opportunity to talk about everything imaginable. It is very short. It is a polite formality, is what a New Year's Eve toast is. Because on New Year's Eve, really it's ultimately not about the words, but it's about the toast, and the drink."
