Series Summary

Non-profit organizations are often political in nature, pushing for issues such as heath care and environmental regulation. However in this series, Expert Village will leave politics to the political action committees and instead focus our energies on issues very close to our heart: culture and education. As we turn the corner into the 21st century, non-profit groups throughout the country are striving to preserve the memory of the musicians, artists and writers who form the backbone of our cultural heritage. After watching this series of videos, you too will feel confident in lending your support by means of your own non-profit organization.

Our expert Jim Goettler has helped to found non-profit organizations all across the United States. In these free clips, he discusses mission statements, bylaws, budget planning and other nuts-and-bolts considerations for setting up your own NPO. Not sure how to obtain research grants or liability insurance? Watch these videos and find out so you can get started. The musicians, artists and writers of this world are depending on you.

Video Transcript

"Hi! This is Jim Goettler with Expert Village and this is a video about how to form and operate a non-profit organization. By lead introduction, I first need to say what I am not which is a tax lawyer. I am an organizer who has worked with many organizations around the country forming their non-profit organizations. I primarily work for people forming 5013C's which is the 501 Code of the Internal Revenue Service so that is the focus that we are going to stay with which are cultural educational organizations. So we are not going to touch tree organizations or cemetery or political action committees which are the 527's which you have probably heard about in the media. So stay with us, we are going to start the next segment about how to form a basic organization necessary before even go to the thought of the 3C level."
