"Now that we have our tegus all set up, we want to find out whether they are a boy or a girl. On small tegus, it's not very easy. Some vets and some breeders can do with a probe and you can actually invert the hemipene but these guys are not going to cooperate with us today. So on the babies you might not be able to tell really easy but once they get bigger, our big tegu here this is a boy because he has great big jaws. These big ole' cheeks show us that it's a boy. The girls don't get cheeks like that they tend to have more narrow heads. Another way you can tell is if you can get down to his bottom and you feel your thumb around on the bottom side of his vemp. You'll feel like a pea, like a bead in his tail just below his vemp. This guy, bead there that also tells that he's a male. Let's see this little red one, this is a 2 year old red tegu and her face or his face you can't really tell yet by looking. But he should have the bead just below his vemp and this actually a girl. There is no bead nothing over here so this is a little girl red tegu. "
