Heating a Tegu Lizard's Cage

"Welcome to Regal Reptiles. We're going to talk about the proper heating for our giant Argentine tegus and it's pretty simple. You need a heat pad. This is a heat pad and what we're going to do is we're going to stick it to the bottom of our tank, it's going to cover about 50% of our 10 gallon tank. So they can get warmer and cooler as they need to. Now if your house is really cool, you can add a clamp lamp and these are lights for like daylight for basking. They don't give UVA as well as UVB and it's kind of questionable as to whether or not tegus do need it. We try to provide UVA as well as UVB on all our tegus enclosures and it does seem to stimulate their appetite and make them a happier tegu. Now you can get away some of our closures. Do just have heating pads and they are happy tegus and they eat well; we also add vitamins. We're going to talk about vitamins in a little bit so these tegus will have a heat pad that covers 50% of the tank. They will have a small basking light on a 10 gallon tank. All you need is a 50 watt basking light and the big tegus can have a much as 125-150 watt light warming them up. In this enclosure cause it's so close to the top from the bottom, it's just a small light and a heating pad."
