"How to choose a healthy tegu, welcome to Regal Reptiles we're going to talk about that. This guy here is a giant Argentine tegu and this is a black and white type and he's a very healthy specimen you can see he is flicking his tongue, that is a good sign. That means he's alert and active his eyes are nice and clear he doesn't have any runoff and you always want to check his vemp, this is when he goes to the bathroom. If this stuff stays stuck there it's not a good sign also when you are at your pet store and thinking about a tegu there is nothing wrong with asking them to see the tegu eat. You can drop a cricket or a small mouse if the tegu is active or alert and he hasn't fed a whole bunch he'll actually chase after that food and try and get it. So we're going to show you a little red tegu as well and this is another healthy specimen. As you can see the look on his tongue very happy and alert his eyes are nice and clear and his vemp look good He has a little shed stuck to his foot that comes right off there shouldn't be all kinds of shed build up by there."
