"Today we're talking about Testudo horsfieldii or the Russian tortoise. Russian tortoises are one of the more relatively available pet tortoises and they are probably one of the best pet tortoise because they do not get gigantic. Full grown Russian tortoises are only 9-10 or maybe up to 11" long and the ones we are going to be able to find in the pet trade are going to be about 4"long. This guy is about 4" and they just eat plants they are very easy to care for, they will eat dandelions which you can pick in the yard as well as collard greens. They are very friendly they never ever bit, so even for small children they are friendly. With small children you do have to be careful you should keep Purell around and clean their hands after they touch the turtles cause some turtles can carry Salmonella which can make you sick, if you touch the turtle poop and you put your hand in your mouth so for small children you do have to be careful for that."
