Sexing & Breeding the Black Throat Monitor

"Welcome to Regal Reptiles. We're going to talk about sexing and breeding our black throat monitors. It's very difficult to determine the sex of our black throat monitor and even more difficult to breed them. The best way to determine the sex is if you see your monitor defecate or go to the bathroom if you look underneath and he goes to the bathroom and a big purple thing comes out that is called a hemipene. Monitors have two of them they have to penises and what they will do is when they go to the bathroom when they defecate those will come out of their body and you will see them. That is the only way to determine how you can tell if you have a male and you can't ever tell if you have a male and you can't ever tell if you have a female unless it lays eggs. These guys do lay eggs to breed however they are not that easy to breed cause they don't always get along with each other and they need a cycle to breed. They need a day cycle and a night cycle then they also need a summer and a winter cycle which is very difficult to do without getting your animal sick. So there are great pets if you want a pet that is going to get really big and eat tons of mice however, they are not easy to breed in captivity they are very difficult to breed in captivity."
