"Hi. On behalf of Expert Village.com I'm Shelley here at A. A. Callister. Today we are talking about how to choose a winter horse blanket. Now one thing that is very important in choosing a winter horse blanket is the outer cover or layering called denier. The denier of the blanket is the outer covering and you are going to want to choose a blanket that's got the right strength for the environment you're going to put your horse in. A denier will come in as low as a 210 and it goes up to a 2100. Now the higher the denier the more wind resistant, the more water repellant, and stronger its going to be. The lower the denier the lighter weight blanket its going to become. A lower denier blanket would be in a warm barn. And a higher denier blanket you might to put on a horse thats out in a pasture with other horses because you know how horses get with each other. They will start biting and chewing and they grab their buddies blanket and take a bite out of it and the higher the denier the tighter it is woven. So when they try to pull it apart it doesn't rip and tear as easily. So that's denier the outer covering of the blanket."
