"Now it's very important that when you purchase any animal you make sure that you have a veterinarian lined up for just in case your animal gets ill. It's a little more difficult in reptiles to find a doctor that has a herpetological background but you may want to try calling your local veterinarian that you are already established with or that's in your area and ask if they have a doctor on site that can treat reptiles. And even if they do not they should probably be able to direct you to where you will be able to find somebody who knows how to handle reptiles that are ill. Now for more information on illnesses, maybe your reptile is having symptoms and you are not sure what it is, it's a good idea to look it up on-line. The web offers a lot of information on illnesses and treatments on reptiles that you may find very very useful. I would also recommend purchasing a book when you purchase your animal simply because a book is an excellent reference. Any question you could have about your reptile during the entire time you own it you can always refer back to the book and it is always a good source of information. I also subscribe to this magazine, Reptiles USA. I find it very interesting it has lots of information that I think is, it's awfully informative. Sometimes they have directories for veterinarians if you live in the bigger cities. Sometimes it has information on specific animals that you may own. It's very interesting. I find it quite useful on occasion. I also would recommend going down to your local pet store, they should always have a specialist that is on site that is able to answer any questions that you may have. Now a reptile specialist may not be so simple to find but they will at least have one person employed if they carry reptiles they have to have someone to care for them. So even if you don't go to the pet store and find them at the moment contacting them should not be too difficult and they should be very willing to offer their help."
