"On behalf of Expert Village I'm Nicole and I'm here to tell you about Uromastyx. A common problem with newly acquired Uromastyx is actually the owners misunderstanding on how to properly care for the Uromastyx. Wrong temperatures and wrong humidity levels can be deadly to your Uromastyx. You need to make sure that the Uromastyx is able to reach a internal body temperature of 120 degrees. They need it hot, not warm but hot basking site and this often the cause of most Uromastyx death in captivity. It's usually the owners fault for not properly researching how to take care of their Uromastyx. Now also providing a water dish you would think you were doing the right thing but what you need to do is you need to remove any source of water out of the Uromastyx cage. High humidity is deadly Uromastyx. If you live in an area where it's very humid, you need to maybe look into a dehumidifier rather than a humidifier. They need to have their humidity at no more than 60% in the evening and no more 40% during the day. It's very important that you maintain these humidity levels because any type of temperature or humidity problem can lead to improper feeding, improper digestion, affections in the bowels. There are numerous different things that can go wrong with your Uromastyx if you don't have the correct temperature and lighting and humidity. You can also harm a Uromastyx by not providing the UVB rays, UVB rays are very important. They are what allows your Uromastyx to absorb calcium, the sunlight provides vitamin D in the body and the vitamin D is what absorbs the calcium into the bones. What can happen if you don't provide the UVB rays is your Uromastyx can get bone diseases, weak, broken bones, very thin body and no muscle tone. You'll notice that Uromastyx has a hard time moving around. Any listlessness in your Uromastyx at all is probably a good sign of improper temperatures or humidities or lighting."
