"On behalf of Expert Village, I'm Nicole and I'm here to tell you about Uromastyx. What to avoid as far as heat sources go, the only thing I can really suggest that you avoid is the under tank heating pads. Those are excellent source of heat but they also prevent the animal from being able to burrow into the sand to reach the coolness. These are burrowing creatures and when they burrow into the sand they are trying to cool down. The heat pads do prevent that so no using heat pads with the Uromastyx. But one of lighting sources that you need to provide for Uromastyx is going to be a UVB ray emitting light. You can purchase these at your local pet store, this one here emitts the UVA and the UVB rays. It's most owners of the Uromastyx have a very hard time providing the natural UVB rays which is produced by other filter sunlight. This cage is not a place where he gets a lot of sunlight so what I did was I gave them a strip light this provides about 6% UBV rays. What you want to look for when purchasing these lights is that they provide 5-7% some where in between that area UVB. Pay very close attention to what type of light you buy. Now also in this cage I got 2 thermometer's for the purpose of keeping track of the warm side as well as the cool side. Over here by most of the heat sources I got this thermometers tells me if my Uromastyx have a basking area that is hot enough to promote proper digesting. I have this other thermometer on the opposite side so I can make sure that the cooler side of the tank is actually cooling enough for her to retreat to if she feels like she needs to."
