Uromastyx Lizard Habitats

"On behalf of Expert Village I'm Nicole and I'm here to tell you about Uromastyx. The housing you need for your Uromastyx, you can use quite a few different things. This is the glass aquarium. It's actually a critter cage, it's not made to hold water. These are specifically designed for vivariums. Now what you need to make sure you have is a cage that is big enough. Your Uromastyx is going to need a cage at least 3 feet long. Some of the larger breeds of Uromastyx will need a cage that is about 5 to 6 feet. So you really need to pay attention to what your specific Uromastyx requires. You need to keep your vivara very simple. They don't appreciate extra decorations, toys what they need is a very simple large area to roam about. What you need to keep in, it is a hide cave of some sort kept in the cooler area. This cage here this is the warmer side and over here is the cooler side so I got one that is placed about right in the center so he can retreat to, to cool down. We got this one over here, it is actually made out of sand stone. Now the one on the bottom is a heat rock but we'll get into that in a different section. I got the two sand stones piles up there and it's kind of formed almost like a natural cave for him to hide in. He likes to be in there cause of the heat it collects inside that area. Other than the hide cave, the only thing you really need in your terrarium for your Uromastyx is a food dish and that is about it. Other than aquariums, some people prefer to use molded rubber tubes that are generally manufactured for the purpose of feeding or watering cattle or horses. These are excellent because you can set them right on the ground and they are also very open on top which makes it possible to hang your lighting. Now I like the glass aquariums simply because I keep it in an area of my house where we have a lot of traffic that my guest are going to be seeing this. So I like to keep it a little more decorative than convenient but as far as the aquarium goes they are a little bit harder to move. They break easier but the advantage of a galvanized metal or rubber tubes is that they are a lot easier to move, easier to place and easier to access for you to get into your vivarium."
