"On behalf of Expert Village, I'm Nicole and I'm here to tell you about Uromastyx. When you are looking to select a uromastyx, one of the first things you need to think about is his requirements for survival and whether you are capable of providing these things for the Uromastyx. The Uromastyx is going to need a cage that is at least 3 feet long even for a baby cause they will grow quickly into it. They also have very strict temperature and humidity requirements. They have to have very simple vivera ;even the plastic plant I have in this one is not appreciated by the lizard. It's more appreciated by me luckily his cage is big enough to accommodate something like that extra. When you are looking to select your lizard you are going to want to make sure that it's one that is very alert and active. A lizard will often be carring some kind of external or internal parasites and that is a lizard that you want to avoid. Look at their eyes and make sure that they are expressive, open wide and not watering. Water eyes can be a sign of a respiratory infection now you also need to check its weight and check it for dehydration. A lizard a Uromastyx will often have wrinkly loose skin around the sides of it's body and this is completely normal. So what you need to do is you need to make sure that you look underneath the base of the tail some sort of fat accumulation underneath the base of the tail. It will tell you rather they are not the lizard is not at the healthy weight or not. You also need to make sure that the lizard has thick stong legs they naturally have thick strong legs so if they have a fin leg or one that doesn't see like it's moving right. You need to make sure that you find out what that is before purchasing the lizards. Because these lizards naturally have thick strong bodies and you need to make sure that is one you pick. Now you also need to make sure that it doesn't have any superficial wounds such as burns from unprotected heat sources or bite wounds. These can often cause bacterial infections and Uromastyx are going to need acclimation period when you first bring it home. Of about 2 weeks to 6 months this is the time where you really need to watch your lizard and make sure that it's not reacting in sort of way to make it look sick or unhealthy in any way."
