"First thing I need to do when cleaning this cage is remove the substrate and all the nasty stuff that's down on the bottom of it here. I'm just going to scoop most of the sand substrate out and into the trash can. It is a little bit heavy to just pick up and lift. The sand tends to weigh quite a bit. But for now I'm just going to scoop out the main part of the sand. Now that I've got most of the sand out, I'm going to remove the rest by using my shop vac. I find it very convenient for cleaning out my animal cages and I'm going to go ahead and try and see if I can get the rest of that out. Occasionally substrates will stick to the bottom of the tank. I like to use these scrapers, you can get them at any home depots or related store really cheap. They're perfect for cleaning out the bottom of cages and loosening some of that stuff that doesn't like to come off the bottom. And that way it can be easily vacuumed out. He got his vomit all over the side of the walls here too so this is perfect for trying to remove that material. And then I can go ahead and vacuum the rest of those particles out."
