"The bearded dragon is a large docile lizard, and they, as juveniles they really resemble a horny toad, in my opinion. They have the very wide, broad head here, and particularly in males, it tends to be a little bit wider, the jowls down here are a little more prominent. If you notice, he has quite a pouch down here. It's his little beard. It's where they get their name, bearded dragons. When they're threatened, or trying to show dominance, or even during the breeding season, they'll poof out this little beard and it's really cool looking when you get to see something like that because it's very dark down there and it probably doubles in size and makes them look quite intimidating. They also if you see here, they have these little horns that run all the way across the back of their head, and along their jowls here. And those are part of its defense mechanism. They're not real sharp but they're sharp enough to let someone know, hey I have spines here, don't mess with me. This is an inland bearded dragon. Like I said, it's the most common. Now, his colors down here vary quite a bit. He's awfully dark on his back here, and they're several different reasons, because inland beardies can be very bright orange and yellows, to very dark colors. They also, their colors will vary greatly depending on what type of conditions they're kept in. Their humidity, and their temperatures are very important to maintaining ultimate color. Now, this guy is a little dark, I just purchased him not too long ago. His, I've improved his lighting situation. He's got everything he needs to attain the full color. And he's starting to develop the orange already and the lighter colors on his head. If you can see here, he's got the orange stripe running along his jaw line. And he should be able to get a little bit more orange around these spots here. On both sides of his back. He is in the middle of shedding, so this side isn't visible. Now, like iguanas, they have the long toes. Now these are some, this is something you want to make sure when you purchase your bearded dragon that are not missing or bent or broken. This is the base of his tail here. It is prominently larger in males then it is females."
