"Hi my name is Richard Revis I'm co-owner of Black Jungle Terrarium Supply and today on behalf of expertvillage.com we are discussing the proper culturing of fruit fly cultures. At this point I would like to continue on discussing some of the problems that can sometimes play fruit fly cultures. Another common pest is mites. Now the type of mites that would effect fruit flies cultures are not specific to fruit flies cultures. Very very common household mite that is pretty mush found every where and the opportunity will go through population explosions when they find a suitable food source. Fruit fly cultures with there proteins and sugar which media provides the prefect medium for them to explode. The simples and easies way to prevent mites is to use a insecticide shelf paper. This is topically available from most home improvements stores, we also have it available through our website and is the easies and the most simples way to make sure that your fruit flies cultures would never become effected. It is simply a matter of lining whatever shelf or counter top that you keep your fruit flies cultures on with the paper. Make sure that you always replace all of your cultures back onto the shelf paper whenever you are not using them and avoid keeping them in areas near any animal enclosures or any where that mites may not have to walk over the paper in order to reach them. If cultures do become effective with mites it is important to never use those flies to start new cultures. Once they are in there they would continue to reproducing. Any new cultures that the flies are use to start although there are certain mediums that you can use there are certain drugs that you can use to get rid of mites in cultures it is simpler to just start with fresh ones and not have to worry about introducing harmful chemical to the food supplies for your animals."
